Jan Per Roalsvig, a retired associate professor of physics whose UB career spanned 35 years, died Aug. 16 in Buffalo after a short illness. He was 89.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst, 6320 Main St., Amherst.

A native of Norway, Roalsvig arrived at UB in 1962 after teaching at St. John’s 猛料视频 in Queens.

His research centered on photo-nuclear reactions, neutron-capture X-rays, decay of hyperfragments and Gamma-ray spectroscopy. While at UB, he served as a National Science Foundation research fellow at Case Western Reserve 猛料视频 and the 猛料视频 of Maryland. He also was a visiting research professor in Sweden, and at the 猛料视频 of British Columbia. He retired from UB in 1996.

Roalsvig majored in mathematics, chemistry and physics at 猛料视频 of Oslo, where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1952. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the Norwegian Institute of Pedagogics, and also completed a master’s degree in physics at 猛料视频 of Oslo in 1955 and a doctorate in nuclear physics at the 猛料视频 of Saskatchewan in Canada.
