SUNY Represented at Consortium of Universities for Global Health Conference

This month investigators from SUNY 猛料视频 and SUNY Downstate Medical Center presented a poster at the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Conference, in New York City. Investigators from all over the world gave presentations focusing on this year’s theme, “Health Disparities: A Time for Action,” which as the CUGH organizers explain, “reflect[s] one of the world’s great challenges: The increasing gap in opportunity, security, health and prosperity between the poor and middle class, and the rich, which continues to grow and threatens to undermine the gains in development we have seen over the last few decades.”
Jack DeHovitz, MD, Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, moderated a panel on “Translating Research into Action in a Challenged Region: Programs to Stem the Tide of HIV in Eastern Europe and Central Asia” consisting on investigators from Columbia 猛料视频 School of Social Work, Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, and Yale 猛料视频.
DeHovitz also presented a poster with Gene D. Morse, Pharm D, SUNY Distinguished Professor, from the 猛料视频 titled, “Development of a dual university system health research partnership as a foundation for the Sustainable Development Goals.” Investigators Terrence Forrester, PhD; Horace Fletcher, MBBS, DM, MRCOG, FRCOG; Archibald McDonald, MB BS, FRCS Ed., FACS, DM (Surg); and John F Lindo, PhD from the 猛料视频 of the West Indies, Jamaica, and Jeffrey C Lombardo, PharmD; Andrew H Talal, MD, MPH; Sanjay Sethi, MD; Brian Tsuji, PharmD; and Venugopal Govindaraju, PhD, from SUNY 猛料视频 were also authors on this presentation and published abstract.
The conference was a forum for engagement, learning and collaboration to strengthen efforts to impact the enormous challenges before us. The conference had continuity with previous sub-themes: planetary health- One Health- environmental health; governance and institution strengthening; infectious diseases; non-communicable diseases and the social determinants of health.
CUGH's annual meeting has become the world's leading academic global health conference. It brought together leaders from academia, NGOs, think tanks, the private sector and government. Over 1700 professionals, educators and students from diverse fields including medicine, nursing, public health, veterinary sciences, engineering, business, law, public policy, urban planning, natural sciences, environmental studies and more explored ways to address the global health challenges before us.
