UB Email Changes

UB’s email service for May 2025 grads—@buffalo.edu addresses—will no longer be supported after Dec. 15, 2025.

Keeping your data secure

Due to cyber security concerns, SUNY has implemented new, more stringent policies that mean UB cannot provide UBMail beyond six months after you graduate, or Dec. 15, 2025.

We realize this is disruptive and understand this change may impact your personal email communication, and we want to provide helpful information with enough time for you to take action to preserve important information in your buffalo.edu email. You will be able to access your UBmail through your preferred email app.

After Dec. 15, 2025, once your mailbox is shut down, any password recovery messages or email sent to the @buffalo.edu account will not be accessible.

Take steps to prepare

Please prepare for this change of service as soon as possible:

  • Provide your contact information, including an alternative email address, to stay connected with the UB community and receive other alumni benefits by .
  • Export any email contacts and move any important information from your UB email prior to Dec. 15, 2025.
  • Notify your email contacts of your new non-UB email address.
  • Update your email address wherever your @buffalo.edu email is being used for web-based accounts, such as for banking, on job application sites, on social media or other third-party organizations.

Changes to other UB-provided services

Your access to other UB-provided software and services will also expire six months after you graduate. This includes Microsoft 365 (Office apps, OneDrive, etc.), UBbox, Zoom (UB license), UB Learns, Panopto (recorded lectures and videos), UBfs (UB File Service) and UB personal websites. Please note, this is not a new policy.

Who this impacts

UB is ending email service for alumni due to changes SUNY has made in its cyber security policy. Going forward, UBmail will be available only for six months after a student graduates. The Class of 2025 will be the first graduates impacted by this change. Other alumni will be affected, and will receive information and instructions in the future.

This change does not affect you if you are a:

  • UB retiree
  • graduate who works at the university
  • graduate who is enrolled as a student

Your UBMail account will remain active. Retirees must sign up for multifactor authorization and are still required to log in once every 90 days to keep the account active.
